Members of the Center for Behavioral Health and Justice (CBHJ) team recently published their article "Mental Health Crisis Location and Police Transportation Decisions: The Impact of Crisis Intervention Team Training on Crisis Center Utilization" with SAGE Publishing and Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice. The study analyzed crisis reports in one Midwestern county to determine whether or not Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training impacted officer's use of crisis center vs. nearby emergency departments.Their findings suggest that CIT training could affect officer transport decs ions and possibly lead to improved treatment options for individuals with serious mental illness when there is a mental health crisis center available.
