Biography

Nokwe-Asi Ward is an accomplished administrative and operations leader with more than 20 years of experience optimizing workflows, managing budgets, and building strong, collaborative teams. In January 2025, she joined the Center for Behavioral Health and Justice (CBHJ) as Administration Manager, bringing expertise in procurement, project management, and strategic planning to advance organizational goals. Previously, Nokwe supported the City of Detroit's Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity (CRIO) office, excelling in administration, event coordination, policy development, and outreach. At Georgia State University, she served as Business Services Manager for University Career Services, where she streamlined operations, managed high-volume budgets, and led staff development efforts. Outside work, Nokwe is rediscovering Detroit's rich arts and cultural scene. She enjoys long walks on the Dequindre Cut, visiting her son in Atlanta, and reading. A Detroit native who spent time in Atlanta, Nokwe values her hometown’s history and is proud to contribute to its growth through her role at CBHJ.

Responsibilities

As the Administration Manager, Nokwe's day-to-day work supports the operation and administrative functioning of the CBHJ. Her responsibilities include support of administrative tasks and operational processes; development of policies, procedures, and processes to improve operations of the CBHJ; problem-solving and ensuring the CBHJ's adherence to university policies and procedures; support of hiring and onboarding; and management of all purchases, payments, and contracts generated within the CBHJ.
